Family of Four Portrait

It took us a while to get Kate and the family all locked in for their portrait session… life is just busy, parents are busy with work and the kids, kids are busy with sport and time just gets away. Lucky for Kate, Sinead is great a following up, otherwise I don’t think people would ever get around to booking. It’s not that they don’t prioritise a family portrait photography session, modern life is just so busy.

We booked the family in for a session at Shorncliffe Beach, it is such a super spot! We organised a morning session and although it can be busy down there on the weekend, the overcast skies I think kept a few people away… and made for a lovely sky on the beach.

When we got there we went straight for a tree that I love for my morning sessions. The sun falls behind it coming through to light up the back drop. This tree though had had a growth spurt. The tree itself wasn’t bigger but the leaves on the tress had quadrupled! It was so thick with these big green leaves and made such a new and different backdrop to what I have had at this spot again.

Our morning sessions at the Jetty can be tricky with all the healthy morning people there our for a walk or run. First we went for the big… extra leafy.. tree, then the Jetty and then onto the beach for some super active and fun action shots.

Every family is different and when I have young and active kids, I love to do a jumping and running photo… I always ask the parents if they want to be involved or off to the side watching. Now some parents have health problems or just don’t want to participate…and that is totally fine but I also love it when they do join in…It often makes for some amazing, fun and stunning family portraits that are full of the character to the family.
