BAC Photography Client Guide

The BAC Photography Experience starts right here!

We specialise in family and newborn photography here in Brisbane and love creating beautiful Wall Art and Keepsake products for our clients to take home and cherish.

Although based out of our North Lakes Studio, we offer outdoor, in-home and of course studio portraits for you and your family.

From our initial contact with you, we want to find out all that we can about you and your family to tailor make your session.

Here are our 4 Steps to an amazing session!

Step 1 – Pre-Session Consultation

We offer either in-studio or phone consultations prior to your session so that we can get to know you, plan out your session and answer any questions you might have. We can go though our products and pricing and offer advice on what to wear for your session.

Step 2 – At the session

Whether the session is in our studio or out and about, we will make you feel comfortable and have fun during your experience. It’s great to get traditional portraits with everyone looking and smiling but it’s equally important to get some more fun and candid images showing the love and connection within your family. Not only do we get ‘the whole family’ portrait but it’s great to get shots of the kids all together and individually, Mum with the kids and dad with the kids too.

Step 3 – The Ordering Appointment

Your ordering appointment is when you come to our studio (if you’re not already there) to view your images and place your order. You can have your ordering appointment on the same day, straight after your session, an hour later or in a few days time.  This is a pressure free environment where we help you to choose your favourite images, find your favourite products and order up amazing artwork for you to take home ready to go on the mantle or hang on the wall. We only offer you one ordering appointment so it’s important that all the decision makers are there so that we can finalise your order that day.

Collection Day

Once your order is complete and ready for collection, we’ll make an appointment for you to call by the studio and collect your amazing products. Depending on what you have ordered, prints will be ready within 2 weeks and Acrylics and Albums will take up to 5 weeks. This is our favourite part. When you get to take home your art work and hang it up on the walls, place it on the mantel and share with family and friends.

Choose your favourite park or picnic spot, your favourite beach or family hang out. This can be an ideal spot for your family portrait.

Outdoor portraits are relaxed and fun, the kids can jump and run and parents can chase them down!

Late afternoon provides the best lighting for outdoor portraits, around an hour or 2 before sunset (Referred to by photographers as ‘Golden Hour’). However for families with little ones or busy schedules, we also offer morning sessions around 8 or 9am too as specific locations.

Don’t have a favourite spot?  That’s ok, we have a great selection of favourite places we love to shoot at and are happy to assist you in choosing the perfect location for your family.

No one is more comfortable than when they are in their own home, so sessions done here are very relaxed and natural. Your home is your castle and it’s a great feeling to have an image up on the wall that was shot in your very own domain.

Sessions in your home can be done at any time of day provided that there is plenty of natural light.

Some great places to photograph in your home include the master bedroom, lounge, rumpus or nursery and of course your own garden.

From my experience as a mother of twins and 8 years photographing families, I find the best time of day for a Newborn Session is in the morning. Babies seem more settled and fuss less at this time of day.

For your session, we have a selection of different backdrops, blankets and rugs and have a small selection of props to use including wraps, newborn outfits, headbands and baskets.

The studio can accommodate a family of 10 people however for bigger or extended families we recommend an outdoor or In-Home Session.

Brisbane Maternity Portrait

Pregnancy is such a special and precious time. There is excitement, maybe a little trepidation and love.

When capturing maternity portraits it is important not to worry about any extra weight that you may be carrying or if you haven’t been feeling the best through your pregnancy. We will ensure that the images are both flattering and beautiful.

Maternity portraits can be done in our North Lakes Studio or at your favourite (or our favourite) outdoor location and we offer combination Maternity and Newborn collections to capture both of these amazing times in your life.

They change so much from the minute they are born! It s great to not only capture them when they are small, but it is a pure joy to photograph children as they grow and begin to turn into little people.

Any age or stage is great and every child is different and we love to capture it all.

We offer in studio children’s portrait, 1st Birthday celebrations (including cake smash), themed portraits including Little Ballerinas, Aviators or Fairies. We also offer outdoor portraits too, at your favourite spot or ours and of course at flexible times to make sure that the session can fit in between any day time naps etc..

Brisbane Pet Portraits in North lakes studio

Part of the family, pet portraits can be with the whole family, just with the kids or just on their own.

Having owned various pets myself I am happy to have them here in the studio and I am used to handling them and have some tricks up my sleeve to help coax them to do what we need.

We also offer outdoor pet portraits too at selected locations around Brisbane that are perfect to show their full exuberant personality.

Outdoor Newborn Portrait in North Lakes

Newborn portrait with Milly the Labrador   When Samantha got in touch to book her newborn session, she really wanted something outdoors and to include their first child (so to speak) their Labrador Milly. We arranged a session for Lake Samsonvale nice and early in the morning with Grandma coming along to help with the dog during the session. On the morning of it was overcast, but no rain forecast, so I set off for the lake. As I arrived, it was pouring down! Worse than that, the council had closed the park (no idea why) and the big yellow barrier was across the entrance. I phoned Samantha and we agreed that we had no choice but to do the session in the studio, as they could not reschedule it. By the time I got back to the studio, the sun was out! You wouldn’t read about it. When Samantha and the family arrived, I suggested that we head to the park at the end of the street where the studio was. That way if it started raining, we could run back to the studio. I knew they really wanted outdoors, so I thought, lets make this happen. We did some family photos first with beautiful newborn Olivia, Mum, Dad and the dog. The we got some of Millie and Olivia together too. By the time we were photographing Mum, Dad and Oliva, the sun was high in the sky and peeking through the trees. Thankfully with the help of Grandma, we managed some beautiful family portraits… Grandma at this point had the dog lead around her foot and her arms high in the sky over the heads of the family with a reflector to block the sun from their faces. It was quite a sight and we really couldn’t have done it without her! Last off was so beautiful photos just of Olivia before we packed up for the day. It was almost lunch by then. I am so glad the rain disappeared so that we could do the natural outdoor portraits that they wanted. BAC Favourite photo: Olivia in the basket with Millie on guard

Couples portrait at Shorncliffe Beach

It was a truly stunning morning down at Shorncliffe Pier for Elisa and Michael’s portrait session. The sun was shining, although it was a little fresh for the 8am start. We walked all over the park. Starting at the jetty, then the trees, on the grass and then out onto the beach to finish. Having had their last photo shoot done in New York, the look and feel this time was totally different (which is of course what they were aiming for).   It was super lovely to meet this couple and update their portrait collection. Family Portrait in the morning sun at Shorncliffe

It was so lovely to see Kylie, Jamie and little Lucas again! They booked in with me last year through National Family Portrait Month and when the charity was running again, they jumped at the chance to book in again and update their family portrait, especially while Lucas is young and growing and changing so much. Lucas was no different to last time. A boy who was on the move! Things to do, adventures to have. I remember by boys being just the same. They loved the beach and the sand, the rocks and the sticks. Shorncliffe Pier is a super special spot for Kylie and Jamie, as they had their wedding portraits down on the jetty. How wonderful it is to now have an updated family portrait to sit alongside this. It really was super to see you all again and we hope to see you again for National Family Portrait month this year.   Families favourite image: on the jetty BAC’S favourite image: crouching together on the beach
