Session Planning Guide

Planning your own professional photography session can feel overwhelming!

BAC Photography want to ease the frustration and stress of planning the session to ensure your experience with us, is fun and light.

Below is a simple, easy to follow guide, for you to use to help plan your perfect portrait session.

Outdoor Family Portraits

Choose your favourite park or picnic spot, favourite beach or family hang out. This can be an ideal spot for your family portrait. Outdoor portraits are relaxed and fun, the kids can jump and run and parents can chase them down!

The late afternoon provides the best lighting for outdoor portraits, around an hour or two before sunset (Referred to by photographers as ‘Golden Hour’). However, for families with little ones or busy schedules, we also offer morning sessions around 8 am or 9 am at specific locations.

Family Studio Sessions

Studio portraits are ideal for any weather! You can come to our climate-controlled home studio here in North Lakes. We have off-street parking, bathroom facilities and everything is all set up and ready for you when you arrive.

We have a selection of different backdrops for families and include a small selection of props and prompts for young kids. The studio can accommodate a family of 10 people however for bigger or extended families we recommend an Outdoor or In-Home Session.

In-Home Sessions

No one is more comfortable than when they are in their own home, so sessions done here are very relaxed and natural. Your home is your castle and it’s a great feeling to have an image up on the wall that was shot in your very own domain.

Sessions in your home can be done at any time of day provided that there is plenty of natural light.

Some great places to photograph in your home include the master bedroom, lounge, rumpus or nursery and of course your own garden.

Newborn Studio Portraits

Studio portraits are ideal for any weather and our climate-controlled home studio in North Lakes is perfect for Newborns. We have off street parking, bathroom facilities and everything is all set up and ready for you when you arrive.

From my experience as a mother of twins and 10 years photographing families, I find the best time of day for a Newborn Session is in the morning. Babies seem more settled and fuss less at this time of day. For your session, we have a selection of different backdrops, blankets and rugs. We also have a small selection of props to use including wraps, newborn outfits, headbands and baskets.

Maternity Portraits

Pregnancy is such a special and precious time. There is excitement, maybe a little trepidation and love. When capturing maternity portraits we will ensure that the images are both flattering and beautiful and we have a selection of fantastic maternity dresses that you can wear for the session.

Maternity portraits can be done in our North Lakes Studio or at your favourite (or our favourite) outdoor location. We offer a combination of Maternity and Newborn collections to capture both of these amazing times in your life.

Children’s Portraits

hey change so much from the minute they are born! It s great to not only capture them when they are small, but it is a pure joy to photograph children as they grow and begin to turn into little people.

Any age or stage is great and every child is different and we love to capture it all.

We offer in-studio children’s portrait, 1st Birthday celebrations (including cake smash), themed portraits including Little Ballerinas, Aviators or Fairies. We also offer outdoor portraits too, at your favourite spot or ours and of course at flexible times to make sure that the session can fit in between any daytime naps etc..

Pet Portraits

Part of the family, pet portraits can be with the whole family, just with the kids or just your pet on their own.

Having owned various pets myself, I am happy to have them here in the studio. I am used to handling different pets and have some tricks up my sleeve to help coax them to do what we need.

We also offer outdoor pet portraits at selected locations around Brisbane that are perfect to show their full exuberant personality.

 

Next, you need to work out a date that suits both you and your family, and is also available with BAC Photography.

BAC Photography has an easy-to-use booking calendar that has all of our available dates already marked in, for you to choose one that suits you and your family.

We offer family sessions, Monday to Thursday and Saturday’s although weekend sessions do tend to fill up fast, we will always do our best to accommodate you!

Sunday ** Limited sessions offered only half a dozen a year.

Newborn sessions are offered midweek, as these are often booked within a few days and timing is important when setting a session time for a Newborn bub.

Newborn sessions also have a longer duration, so we are often unable to fit you in on the weekend.

Session times are very important, depending on several factors:

Availability: Of course, BAC Photography needs the time available

Suitability: This is what is best for your family, i.e. booking around children’s nap times and your work

Session Location: Each location has different times that are suitable for them

Studio Portrait times: 9am, 10.30am, 12pm & 2pm

Outdoor Portraits: Between 8 am & 9 am for a morning session and then the last hour before sunset for an afternoon session

*We do not offer outdoor sessions in the middle of the day and this is due to lighting. The light is best for portraits first thing in the morning and last thing in the afternoon. This ensures flattering light on you and your family with a suitable beautifully lit backdrop also. Each location in our location guide has a note as to whether it is best in the morning or afternoon… some are great for both.

Once you have decided on your session style and time, you can then choose which location is best for your family.

We have a great range of locations that we use, most of which are on the North Side of Brisbane (as we are a North Lakes based photographer). This doesn’t mean that we don’t offer sessions elsewhere, we are happy to check out a favourite spot that you and your family may have.

If you are choosing an in-home portrait, then we need to find out a little more about your home and the lighting in the proposed area. In-home sessions are lifestyle based. We do not provide a mobile backdrop and studio lighting but rather take the images in the comfort of your own home with the natural surroundings whether that be indoors or outdoors. If you are after a studio look, then you are best to book in for a session in the studio.
