Photography Location Guide – Nudgee Waterhole Reserve
Nudgee Waterhole Reserve
Ideal Family Portrait Location for Greenery and Boardwalks
Overall Rating ★★★★
I first used this location for a local Nudgee family and have only used it a few times since but it is definitely one of my favourite spots. A bit closer to the city for those clients that don’t want to come up to North Lakes or Redcliffe.

Access & Parking ★★★
Although there is parking at the lake, I usually head to the bigger car park at the Banyo Devils Rugby Club. There is a few hundred meters walk from the car to our starting point for the session (a little bridge) and then we head onto the boardwalk and round to the lake. You can circumnavigate the lake as there is a nice grassy area around the back. The whole walk is around 1km. The paths are both gravel and wooden boardwalk style, so not great for those who can’t walk far or are unsteady.
Amenities ★★★
There are not any toilet facilities directly at this location however just down the road, 500m there is a service station with shops, toilets etc..
Best time of day for your session ★★★★★
This location has great shade and can be used for both morning and afternoon sessions. I have even photographed here during the middle of the day, however don’t recommend it unless absolutely necessary. Although either time of day is great… the sunset on the waterhole is amazing.
Morning Session
Afternoon Portrait
Variety ★★★★
If you are prepared to go for a walk around the whole lake there are plenty of spots to stop and use for different backdrops however you can just stay close to the lake and not walk the whole way round.
- On the bridge
- In the trees
- By the lake
- The back grassy area
- On the boardwalk
Wow factor ★★★
This location offers an amazing sunset on the lake. You can’t beat sunsets on the water can you.

In Summary
This Brisbane Portrait location is much closer to the city than some of our other locations that are up near our base in North Lakes. It offers great shade and pretty light through the trees. It would be ideal for most portraits, families, pets, maternity and children.
